Chlamydia Testing and STI's
Unfortunately, sexually transmitted infections (STI's), such as Chlamydia, HIV/AIDs, syphilis, genital warts, genital herpes and gonorrhoea, are on the increase in the UK, practically amongst young people.
You can't always tell just by looking at someone whether or not they have and STI and they may not even know themselves. Some infections, like Chlamydia, may not show any symptoms for a long time after the infections has been transferred. STI's can be transmitted through any sexual contact not just full sex. STI's have been found in the mouth, throat and eyes from oral sex (e.g. blow jobs etc).
It's Your Choice can offer information about different types of STI's and the best ways to reduce the risk of catching them. We also offer a free and confidential Chlamydia test. This involves the young person providing a small urine sample which is then sent by post to the laboratory for checking. The young person will then be informed of the result via letter, phone call or text message, as they choose. This process normally takes about 2 weeks.
Treatment for some infections, such as Chlamydia is relatively easy and free, however if left untreated, the condition could get worse and some infections like HIV/AIDS will lead to additional health complication and could shorten your life expectancy.
The links shown here will provide you with additional information and lots of free advice.
