Private Renting
Suitable housing for a young person in the New Forest are in short demand and hard to come by. They are often very expensive and landlords may require references, deposits and rent in advanced before taking a new tenant. If you are unable to pay your rent you are likely you be evicted. People on a low income or claiming benefits may be able to claim Housing Benefit but this may not cover all costs. Single young people under 25 years old will be restricted to the Housing Benefit 'single room rate' which is approximately £69 per week. It may be more cost effective to rent a room in a shared house rather than try to afford a flat or bed-sit which will have additional costs attached. Look in newspapers, shop windows and work notice boards for housing/flat share adverts. They will probably be cheaper than via a letting agent and will not require 'holding or Credit Checking fees'.
