RENT DEPOSIT SCHEME

Rented accommodation in the New Forest is in short supply and is very expensive.  Finding the deposit for accommodation can be difficult for young people on top of all the other expenses of moving in such as one months rent in advance, agents fees, TV licence and bills etc..

It's Your Choice's Open Doors can help bridge that gap with the rent deposit scheme which is……….

For young people aged 18-25 years old, who have a connection with the New Forest and who may need help securing private rented accommodation.

Am I eligible for the scheme?

Can you answer yes to the following points?.......

~ Are you on the NFDC Homesearch Register?

~ Are you homeless now or in the future?

~ Are you a single person or a couple without dependants (children)?

~ Are you looking for accommodation in the New Forest area?

~ Are you aged between 18-25 years old?

How does the scheme work?

Instead of a cash deposit, we offer landlords a deposit bond - effectively guaranteeing to pay up to the value of the deposit to the landlord should it become necessary after an applicant has left the accommodation.  The applicant will be expected to save a small amount of cash each week/month to eventually replace the bond with their own cash deposit.  Bonds are reviewed on a six monthly basis and if some savings have been received and all parties are happy the bond will be renewed.

Applicants will need to find the property themselves and make sure that the landlord/lady will accept a deposit bond, this is likely to be a room in a shared house, a bedsit or small flat. We can offer support and advice about money management and completion of the forms etc.
